We’ve referred a couple of times to the “DMCA license” a detestable phrase that I heard around the SXSW tech panels used as though it actually meant something. One of my shortcomings is that there is a certain category of things that I find to be so obviously demented, or shite as the Brits might say, that they require no further treatment than sarcasm. This is actually wrong, because sometimes it is better to actually offer a real explanation.
Corey Field went to the trouble of actually explaining why there is no such thing as a DMCA license without the serving of bile that accompanied my own. A short and concise post well worth the read and pointing people to who labor under this misconception. See “The DMCA License?”
