Trichordist makes the excellent point that the “public database” is a canard in search of a dodge. The GUID concept is duplicative. It is also derivative of SNOCAP. It’s like if you told someone the story of Alan Turing and they came away thinking it was all about having a hobby of long distance running. The problem is both different, simpler but also much larger than a GUID.
