Microsoft doesn’t think it needs permission to train its artificial intelligence models on your content.

The U.S. tech giant has invested billions in OpenAI, the firm behind ChatGPT, and stands to profit handsomely from plans to integrate AI tools across its range of products over coming months.

But Microsoft argues that British law doesn’t require it to obtain a license from copyright holders to train AI models on their creations.

The company has made the argument in talks convened by the government’s Intellectual Property Office to address how companies should go about accessing the massive amounts of content required to develop their AI models….
